Derek Jeter became a hometown hero for the citizens of New York after his 3,000th hit this past Saturday! To top it off, it was a home run caught by a fan behind the left field fence.

Jeter became the 28th major leaguer to hit the milestone and joined former teammate Wade Boggs as the only players to do it with a home run.

Christian Lopez was the lucky fan who caught the ball and, like any loyal fan, he gave the ball back to Jeter. All Lopez wanted in return was to meet Jeter, but what he got was much much more.

In exchange for Jeter's 3,000th hit ball, Lopez get four luxury box seats for every game of the rest of the season, plus the playoffs. He also received several signed bats, balls and jerseys and a meeting with Jeter.

Some say he should have kept the ball, while others commend what he did. One thing for sure is that he and Derek Jeter will remember this day for the rest of their lives.

For fans of Jeter who were not able to make it to the game, there are a few things that have been released for you to hold on to the memory of the first Yankee to get to 3,000 hits.

Check them out after the break!
