The Adidas “Handcuff” JS Roundhouse Mid Gets The Boot (PHOTOS)

Posted June 19, 2012 by Jason Brooks for Global Grind Staff

In 'people are overly sensitive' news, the Adidas “Handcuff” JS Roundhouse Mid will not be released, after several negative comments that the removable cuff that comes with the shoe was reminiscent of a shackle used for slavery.

Had people done any research before making these types of allegations, they would have found that the shoe, designed by Jeremy Scott, is actually modeled after the "My Pet Monster" toy from the late '80s. The toy had the same blue color scheme and wore gold handcuffs.

Jeremy has previously themed his sneakers after plush animals and even Mickey Mouse.

In a statement that Adidas released to the Associated Press, they stated:

"[The sneaker] is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott's outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery. Since the shoe debuted on our Facebook page ahead of its market release in August, Adidas has received both favorable and critical feedback. We apologize if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace."

Jeremy Scott has worked with many musicians of color, including Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, A$AP Rocky and Rihanna. We highly doubt that Jeremy Scott meant to offend anyone, but after all, any publicity is good publicity.
