From breaking Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s heart in 500 Days of Summer to playing Paul Rudd’s sister in this summer’s Our Idiot Brother, doe eyed Zooey Deschanel is making a steady incline to stardom and we are watching!

The 31-year-old actress has come a long way since her days alongside Mark Wahlberg in The Happening and is now starring in her own sitcom, The New Girl.

STORY: The Fresh Faces Of Fall’s 2011 TV Line Up

The Fox network show centers around Zooey’s character, Jess, who moves in with three male roommates she discovered on Craigslist after a breakup and the dorkiness that ensues. The role is not uncommon for Zooey, as she often plays odd, uncommon girls, but one thing she isn’t to Hollywood is the new girl.

Zooey’s father Caleb is an Academy Award-nominated cinematographer who is most famous for his work on the Passion of The Christ, her mother is an actress and she is also a great-granddaughter to former French President Paul Deschanel, and her older sister, Emily Deschanel, is also an actress and stars in the T.V. series Bones. As if her beautiful genes weren’t enough on their own!

In addition to her career on screen, Deschanel has had her time on the mic as well. The actress, who is married to Death Cab For Cutie front man Ben Gibbard, has also recorded two albums, started up an entertainment website for women called hellogiggles.com, and appeared as the face of Rimmel London.

We know, you want to see the woman behind all of this — and it doesn’t hurt that she has painstakingly beautiful blue eyes. Get to know The New Girl in the gallery above, which should be enough to hold you over until the show airs on Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Fox!
