Say What?! Instagram Lost Almost HALF Of Their Daily Users After Privacy Policy Change (DETAILS)

Posted January 16, 2013 by Rachel Hislop for Global Grind Staff

Has your Instagram feed been a little quiet as of late? That's probably because Instagram lost almost half of its users in just the last month.

The dip in users is a direct response to the change in the privacy policy that made users a little more wary about uploading their filtered photos.

STORY: FINALLY! Instagram Leaps Out Of The Mobile Arena With Major Announcement

According to data provided by app traffic company AppStats, Instagram, a unit of Facebook (NASDAQ:FB), has lost more than half of all its active users in the month since proposing to change its original Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. In mid-December, Instagram boasted about 16.3 million daily active users; as of Jan. 14, Instagram only has about 7.6 million daily users.

The boycotting of sorts came after an amendment portion of the terms of service read:

"Instagram does not claim ownership of any content that you post on or through the service. Instead, you hereby grant to Instagram a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use the content that you post on or through the service."

Instagram's later revised Terms of Service is set to go into affect today and here is what they entail:

Instagram does not claim ownership of any Content that you post on or through the Service. Instead, you hereby grant to Instagram a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use the Content that you post on or through the Service, subject to the Service's Privacy Policy, available here http://instagram.com/legal/privacy/, including but not limited to sections 3 ("Sharing of Your Information"), 4 ("How We Store Your Information"), and 5 ("Your Choices About Your Information"). You can choose who can view your Content and activities, including your photos, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Will you be sticking around on the photo-sharing site?
