Joan Smalls has been gracing the runways, owning editorial shoots, and simply dominating the fashion world, but she was yet to do a sit down interview one-on-one, just her beauty and her words - until now.

During a W Magazine test shoot with journalist Lynn Hirschberg, Joan spoke about how she began her modeling career as a 13-year-old girl in her native San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Known for walking a multitude of runways for the biggest designers in the industry (she walked 16 shows in one week during the last NYFW) Joan has been featured in some of the most stunning spreads known to mags, but she faced a multitude of adversities before reaching her current caliber of fame.

From being denied modeling contracts and being asked to alter her appearance, and suffering from a spine ailment, Joan opens up in this screen test interview.
