Artist JR Wants To Turn The World Inside Out, Starts With New York City (PHOTOS + VIDEO)

The $100,000 TED (Technology, Entertainment & Design) award is given annually to an exceptional individual who wants “One Wish to Change the World.” After several months of preparation, s/he unveils his/her wish at an award ceremony held during the TED Conference in L.A. These wishes have led to collaborative initiatives with far-reaching impact.

The winner of this year's TED award was a French street artist/photographer known as JR who announced his TED wish on March 3rd at a solo exhibition in Long Beach, California. JR's wish was simple: to use art to turn the world inside out. By this he meant he wants to use his art as a way of bringing people together: men and women, Palestinians and Israelis, rich and poor and everyone in between.

Known for his large scale caricatures posted all over the world, JR has become a well known figure in the art world. Luckily for us, JR has taken his talents to NYC for our ever changing mural wall on the corner of Houston and Bowery. It went up today and we have the pictures, which may be seen, along with past work, after the break.
