Yesterday we saw a few pictures of Michael Phelps posing for what we all thought was Louis Vuitton’s new ad campaign. However, Louis Vuitton now stated that the photograph, supposedly taken by Annie Leibovitz, was “stolen” and is “NOT an LV image.”

Although never denied that it could eventually be an image used by the French luxury luggage brand, Louis Vuitton has yet to confirm or deny.

The campaign is comprised of two shots, allegedly taken by Leibovitz, that feature Phelps with Louis Vuitton luggage of some sort, giving the rumors fuel. But if not, the question remains: what are the pictures being used for? They definitely appear to fall in line with Vuitton ads of the past, so who is fibbing here? We guess only time will tell.

Either way, this discrepancy will be solved soon enough. In the meantime, you can still check out the pictures of Michael Phelps for the alleged LV ad campaign in the gallery above.
