This country is facing a very serious problem. The latest generation of kids is slated to die 5 years younger than their parents due to a lack of physical activity, and Michelle Obama is doing her best to change that.

Nike President & CEO Mark Parker has joined the FLOTUS to help bring physical activity back to schools, making the announcement with the video above for the LET’S MOVE Active School initiative.

Studies show kids need at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day to stay healthy, but they are spending an average of seven or more hours a day in front of a screen, and only 1 in 3 kids are active daily. In addition to the health benefits of an active lifestyle, research indicates that regular physical activity can improve test scores, classroom behavior and attendance. Yet, only 4 percent of elementary schools, 8 percent of middle schools and 2 percent of high schools currently offer daily P.E. and only 9 states require recess in elementary schools.

Nike, who has been known to consider everyone an athlete, is one of the main supporters of Michelle Obama’s LET’s MOVE Active School initiative. Although we are pretty sure that the First Lady could be successful with any brand, the Nike powerhouse is sure to make for a productive partner in an initiative of this nature.
