Driving around New York City can be an absolute nuisance.

From the traffic to unappealing ads selling carpet cleaning and male breast reductions, it is rare that an ad contains all the elements to fall under the category of fine art.

Billboards are typically reserved for ads that want you to dig into your pockets and purchase something; that was until famed artist Peter Tunney decided to inject some art into the billboard scene.

New York natives may have seen some words of encouragement popping up on billboards citywide, artfully boasting words of encouragement such as “Gratitude,” or “Nothing Happens Unless First A Dream.”

Tunney’s initiative came to fruition when the artist noted all of the billboards around the glistening city of New York that weren’t cleared for sale for ads. Tunney began contacting the owners of the vacant ad spaces, and turning them into art pieces, transforming the city into his very own open-air gallery.

Keep your head up, and you may be greeted with a dose of positive and free art.
