Long before the pant-less ensembles, poker faces and egg carriages, Lady Gaga was known as Stefani Germanotta, a raven-haired New York City girl who worked as a waitress in the West Village when she had time off from studying music.

During her stint waiting tables in the summer of 2005, Stefani teamed up with co-worker Maggie Saniewska to shoot what would be, unbeknownst to Maggie, the soon-to-be superstar’s first ever photo shoot.

The photos were shot at Gaga’s parents house on a 2005 summer day with a simple point and shoot camera. No tripod, no special lens, just an aspiring photographer and a woman who would soon explain to the world that she was “Born This Way.”

Gaga provided her own hair and makeup for the shoot, and the tides of time have changed a lot since she was a 19-year-old perched on a piano.

Take a look at Gaga before she was the Lady we know today in the gallery above.
