Thanks to slavery, most, if not all, African-Americans know very little about where their ancestors came from. However, thanks to technology, those grey areas on some family trees are clearing up.

A Tribe Called Quest leader Q-Tip discovered this recently when the Cambria Heights, NY native learned that his roots extend all the way to West Africa, Guinea Bissau, specifically.

"There's a bunch of generational, psychological things that could be answered," Tip explained while taking swabs of his DNA from his cheeks on camera for Okayafrica.com.

"There's a lot of intrigue for me. I've never been to Africa but I believe I'm a Zulu from South Africa. I also believe I have some Asian in me," Tip said.

News of Q-Tip's ancestry came courtesy of AfricanAncestry.com, a website that sells kits so folks can trace their roots. Not only will your DNA be traced to a country of origin; it can also identify your tribe.
