These days, sports figures and fashion walk hand in hand.

One only has to take a look at the NBA to see giants like Kobe and D-Wade in suits and slack vs. shorts and tanks. This is thanks in part to the ban pushed by David Stern in response to NBA players embrace of hip-hop fashion and style over the last two decades.

The ban was met with some resistance, but it forced players to think about how they want to be seen by the public and, more importantly, by themselves, while appearing at team and league functions off the court. Some may even argue that it created vain monsters who are also terrible dressers.

EXCLUSIVE: Tyson Chandler: A Gentleman & An Artist!

While meeting with designer Joseph Abboud earlier this week, Dallas Maverick and Team USA Basketball member Tyson Chandler shared his passion for fashion with the legendary menswear designer. The pair also talked about the history of athletes and fashion, with Abboud discussing his relationship with noted sports authority and broadcaster Bryant Gumbel, whom he began dressing in 1988, a year after the stylish New Yorker appeared on the cover of GQ magazine.
