Doyin's bio

Raised in the suburb area of Piscataway, NJ, Doyin grew to become one of the next generations most passionate hip-hop heads. It was during his early years when Doyin fell in love with hip-hop after his first introduction to the genre: the music video to “Jump” by the group formally known as Kriss-Kross. Over the years, he grew unsatisfied with what had been labeled as hip-hop, and felt that he needed to give his own two cents through his extension of music. It was During his first year at Penn State University, Doyin decided to put plans into motion and follow his intense passion for music. Since the age of 12, he has been the go-to guy when it came to making beats for his friends to rap over. This trend continued into his high school career, as he would beat box with his mouth or pound on lunch tables for everyone to crowd around and enjoy the art that he created. Although Doyin was blessed with this gift, he was raised in a Nigerian household where education came first. Doyin, second to oldest of five, is part of the first generation of his Nigerian family to be born and raised in America. With this blessing, came the responsibility to become a success in America, and take whatever success made in the country back to his roots in Nigeria to help the family. This idea was in mind, but Doyin felt like he could achieve his goals more efficiently through the pursuit of a music career. Doyin decided to transcend his ability from making on-the-spot beats to making actual musical instrumentals. After a failure to attract a stable audience to listen to his instrumentals, Doyin didn’t give up on his dreams and aspirations and then decided that he needed to rap over these beats to really get an audience’s attention. Regarding the name, “Lyrical” – One day, Doyin was hanging with his childhood friends, and then randomly started beat boxing. At the request of his friends, he attempted his first freestyle, which didn’t go how he planned. He ended up rapping about irrelevant but witty subjects that made the audience laugh. In turn, they gave him the name Lyrical, - not crediting his lyrical genius, but more so trying to poke fun at him. Since then, Doyin took this nickname that was bestowed onto him and ran with it to become the lyrical genius that he is known for today.
