Mission Statement: Our goal is to save lives, further spread the awareness of Aplastic Anemia, recruit more people to join the Registry and become a Bone Marrow Donor.

Mela’s Story Ashalond Daniel, aka Mela, is a native of Aberdeen, Mississippi. She was raised by both her mother, Yvonne Daniel and late beloved grandmother, Clara Daniel. Growing up in a close family environment, with a Christian background and three siblings (Roderick, Dashmond and Zerdock), she excelled in her studies. Ashalond graduated with honors from Aberdeen High School in 1998. While attending, she was a member of the Beta Club, Student Council and Aberdeen Band. Soon after graduation, to further her education she enrolled in the University of Mississippi. Ashalond obtained her Degree from the University with a Bachelors of Accountancy and Bachelors of Liberal Arts in English. Shortly thereafter, she received her Masters of Business Administration from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee. With her life and career on track, disheartening news would soon materialize in the form of an unexpected illness. In April 2009, Ashalond started a new job. However, before resigning from her previous position she went to her doctor for a routine check up. During the visit, the physician notified Ashalond, that her blood cells were very low and needed to be monitored with great caution. A few weeks later, after several appointments, Ashalond was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia, which is a rare disease of the bone marrow. Upon receiving the diagnosis, she began to research the condition and consult with a host of specialists about various treatment options while receiving blood transfusions at the Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. In June 2009, Ashalond traveled to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas for a second opinion. After three days of rigorous testing, the finding remained the same; Severe Aplastic Anemia was the final diagnosis. With the severity of the potential life threatening disease, she is in immediate need of a bone marrow transplant or must seek other treatments for survival. As of most recently, Ashalond founded the non-profit charity organization, “Mela’s Miracle” The Ashalond Daniel Foundation in hopes of saving lives, further spreading the awareness of Aplastic Anemia and recruiting more people to join the Registry and become a Bone Marrow Donor.
