In case you haven't heard, Barack Obama's homie and former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel was elected mayor of Chicago. The brother of Hollywood agent Ari Emmanuel, the real-life inspiration for Entourage’s Ari Gold, promises to bring a lot of energy, enthusiasm and expletives to Chi-town’s mayoral office this year. Nicknamed “Rahmbo” by some for his rumored temper, Chi-town’s new mayor has been such a character on Capitol Hill that he inspired an SNL parody in which he was portrayed by none other than Andy Samberg (video below).
Rahm won the mayoral election after fighting off a legal challenge to his Chicago residency. In Chicago, a candidate for mayor has to live in the city for a year prior to running for office. Rahm worked at the White House during that time frame, but courts ruled that living in D.C. to help the President of the United States is covered under the law.
With one of America’s most interesting politicians becoming mayor of one of the country’s coolest cities, we've decided to give you a special GlobalGrind hip-pop tour of the Windy City, highlighting its influence on our culture at large.
