When I was nine, I shopped at the Gap. I wore these denim overalls that continued down into a skirt and I thought I was too bad. I was so, so wrong and misguided. 

Willow Smith, on the other hand, is a boss. At 9-years-old she has developed such a bold personal style, that far surpasses anything many of us could have pulled together at that age. And what are her parents, Will and Jada, supposed to do, stifle their baby’s creativity? I say let her rock the mohawk, let her opt for her safety pins in her ears, let her do the biker boots with a boucle jacket. Willow possesses a sense of independence far beyond her years, and is in high demand by the paparazzi before she’s even hit double-digits. 

I can’t help but notice, however, that her fashion choices bare slight resemblance to those of Rihanna, which her stylist, Mariel Haenn has cited as one of Willow’s inspirations. And just as people started mimicking Rihanna’s look, Mariel says the ultimate goal would be for Willow and Jaden to have their own clothing line.

Is Willow channeling her inner Rihanna, or is it just coincidence that the two fashionistas are digging similar styles? Either way, they’re both fly. 

Acid wash is tricky, to say the least. Both ladies adding punches of bright colors actually matches their jeans, because it doesn’t try to. It’s so wrong it’s right.

I’ve heard that every woman should have the courage to shave her head (or at least cut it drastically) at least once in her life, to reinforce that we are not our hair, and that beauty comes in all forms. While this is not my cup of tea and I see myself doing this at absolutely no point in the near future, I respect these two young women that have taken the leap. It looks badass.
