The Daily Grind Video
CLOSE

With spring closing in on us, it’s only right we prepare ourselves for what will be an incredible season of style, which is why GlobalGrind spoke with Anne Curtis of L’Oreal Paris and Eva Chen of Teen Vogue to learn what the dominant beauty and fashion trends will be this spring.

According to these two, bold colors, mixing and matching prints, and a triumphant return to the usual-fall staple: neutrals. And, as seen from runways to red carpets, primary colors such as reds, greens and blues will be prominent this season.

“We’ve had a big ’70s resurgence this season,” Curtis said via telephone two weeks ago.

The feminine and fun style of the Studio 54 era has definitely made its way back in the form of center parts, long straight hair, heavy bangs, loose waves and hair accessories such as headbands and flowers.

As for the hair color, “Red is very big in hair color right now as well,” Anne noted, filling us in on a secret Patricia Fields and Rihanna have been trying to tell us for some time now.

Bold colors as well as accessories like scarves are poised for dominance this spring.

As for the accessories, Teen Vogue’s Chen promises that really high heels are still in and wedges are everything!

As for bags, shoulder bags with really long straps that you can wear across your body or over one shoulder are the ones to wear. Scarves will be prominent, too.

If you are worried about sprucing up your wardrobe without putting a dent in your pocket then “accessories are really an interesting way to develop your wardrobe if you don’t want to break the bank and you want to go shopping,” said Eva. So, stack up on chunky bangles, layered chains and delicate scarves from your neighborhood Forever 21 or H&M.

We haven’t forgotten about the men!

Chen said that we will be seeing “a lot of great cargo pants in stone and brown colors, a lot of utility jackets, lots of fun hoodies underneath jackets and also, on the other side of that, beautifully tailored suits…you can never go wrong with a beautifully tailored suit and tie.”

And of course, movies have long inspired fashion, as we have seen the impact “Black Swan” has had. So, we posed the question, “do you think the film Red ‘Riding Hood’ will contribute to the pop culture vocabulary when its released in a few weeks?” To which Eva responded, “I think that will be an interesting one to watch. ‘Black Swan’ was very much a fashion moment… The makeup and the hair were so strong and that obviously had an influence on our culture. I’m not sure about ‘Red Riding Hood’. It’ll be interesting to see…”
