Chris Brown and Rihanna were one of our favorite couples until one tragic night following a Grammy afterparty.
The two have since moved on and become better people both professionally and personally. The media has tried time after time to pit the two against each other and last night at the BET Awards was no different.
Both stars went head-to-head as they were both nominated for the Coca Cola Viewers Choice Award. Rihanna was nominated for her collaboration wih Drake for “What’s My Name” and Chris Brown was nominated for his hit “Look At Me Now” featuring Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.
When it came time to announce the winner, something seemed to go wrong.

The Sprint EVO read Chris Brown was the winner, while the teleprompter read that Rihanna won. Talk about awkward. Rihanna wasn’t in attendance, but you could very well cut the tension in the room with a knife. Drake ended up accepting the award on Rihanna’s behalf but later in the show, Kevin Hart brought Breezy back out to let everyone know that he was actually the winner.
Rihanna’s fans, aka #RihannaNavy, took to Twitter and were livid and demanded BET give the star an apology. #TeamBreezy actually was on the same page as #RihannaNavy and weren’t happy with the confusion. This is the first time we have seen the two sides come together since the two stars’ bitter breakup.
Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programming, took to his Twitter to explain what happened. “That BET Awards Viewers Choice mix-up was due to human error. And I was the human that made that error. I apologize to all affected.”
We are happy to see that #RihannaNavy and #TeamBreezy rallied together during the mishap. Rihanna didn’t comment on what happened, but she did thank her #RihannaNavy for sticking by her. “#RihannaNavy thank you for proving what I tell the world everyday! Nobody fans go harder dan YALL!!! Thx 4 pickin that up @drakkardnoir 1LUV.
Chris Brown did the same, dedicating his performance to #TeamBreezy and stating, “Teambreezy is the ultimate/end all be all! I love you.”
Rihanna didn’t hit the awards, but she did party afterwards at the Playhouse nightclub in Hollywood. She seemed unscathed by the BET fiasco and looked beautiful in a sexy gray gown. Chris Brown hit the Jive Official Post Party at Voyeur in West Hollywood where he was grinning from ear to ear.
