This is not your ordinary “Feed The Children” story: this story speaks to the harshest realities of what is happening in Africa. United Nations officials have warned that 800,000 children could die across the Horn of Africa if something isn’t done to aid the continuing famine hit region of drought-ravaged Somalia.

The above photograph illustrates a 7 month year-old, Mihag Gedi who weighs as little as a newborn. His mother, Asiah Dagane, managed to get him to a field hospital in a Kenyan refugee camp. The baby’s anguished eyes, hollow cheeks and fragile limbs show just how severe Somalia’s famine is becoming.

Asiah sat at her baby’s bedside with little to say.

“In my mind I’m not well. My baby is sick. In my head I am also sick,” she said with hurt in her eyes.
