Today we see that Glenn Beck isn’t wasting anytime sharing his thoughts about Norway, while in Little Rock, AK, the smartest student won’t be valedictorian because she’s Black.

Shame On You

Who: Glenn Beck

Where: New York City

What Happened: Glenn Beck voiced his opinion on the Norway bombing and shooting attacks on his radio show and said that the camp “sounds a little like the Hitler Youth. I mean, who does a camp for kids that’s all about politics? Disturbing.” Listen to Beck’s comments.


Inside the Capitol

Where: Little Rock, AK

Who: Kymberly Wimberly

What Happened: Kymberly Wimberly, 18, a high school student from the southeast of Little Rock won’t be valedictorian because she is Black. Wimberly, got only a single B in her 4 years at McGehee Secondary School and loaded up on Honors and Advanced Placement classes. She had the highest G.P.A. and says the school’s refusal to let her be sole valedictorian was part of a pattern of discrimination against Black students.
Wimberly says that despite earning the highest G.P.A. of the Class of 2011 and being informed of it by a school counselor, “school administrators and personnel treated two other white students as heir[s] apparent to the valedictorian and salutatorian spots.”

Contenders: MTA Conductor vs. Screwdriver Man

Match: A man wielding a screwdriver and screaming someone wanted to kill him tried to hijack a subway train by forcing his way into a motorman’s cab, cops, a witness and the motorman said Monday.

The terrifying 10-minute ordeal on a crowded northbound No. 5 train happened Friday and prompted panicked passengers to rush to the conductor’s defense.


GlobalGrind’s Global Mind

Where: South Africa

What Happened: A 50-year-old South African man woke up inside a mortuary over the weekend and screamed to be let out – scaring away attendants who thought he was a ghost. His family presumed he was dead when they could not wake him on Saturday night and contacted a private morgue in a rural village in the Eastern Cape.

He spent almost 24 hours inside the morgue, the region’s health department spokesman told the Sapa news agency.

The two attendants later returned and called for an ambulance.


Better than Fiction

Character: David Wu

Plot Line: Congressman David Wu is accused of sexually assaulting the teenage daughter of one of his campaign donors and will not seek re-election next year in the wake of the scandal.

Married Oregon Democrat David Wu, 56, is alleged to have engaged in ‘aggressive and unwanted sexual behavior’ with the young woman, who he says consented to the encounter.


Numbers Game

Number: 34,000

Where: Idaho

What Happened: The FBI found over 33 firearms and 34,000 rounds of ammunition inside accused mobster Enrico Ponzo’s Idaho home. They show more than a dozen assault-style rifles and a shelf full of handguns, along with crates of bullets.

The pictures were taken February 8 at the farmhouse where prosecutors said the 43-year-old Swampscott native and reputed would-be assassin of New England Mafia godfather ‘Cadillac Frank’ Salemme lived.


This Day In History

Year: 1908

What Happened: On July 26, 1908, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is born when U.S. Attorney General Charles Bonaparte orders a group of newly hired federal investigators to report to Chief Examiner Stanley W. Finch of the Department of Justice. One year later, the Office of the Chief Examiner was renamed the Bureau of Investigation, and in 1935, it became the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
