Irene is going to “Make it Rain,” but you’ve got to be a “Survivor” so make sure you grab your “Umbrella.”

With Hurricane Irene moving swiftly up the East Coast, people are taking all types of preparations for a stormy weekend in the basement.

One thing that’s going to come in handy while we’re waiting out Irene’s fury is an iPod. There’s no better way to weather the storm than to plug in the Dre Beats and drift away into your favorite playlists.

When you’re packing up a first aid and food rations, make sure you take time to carefully select the tunes to get you through the tropical storm.

Just in case you don’t have any good tracks to get you through this weekend, GlobalGrind compiled a list of the best songs to listen to until the storm passes. It seems like some of our favorite artists made hit storm songs with Irene in mind.

After the jump check out our top songs to go on our Irene playlist for the weekend!

Irene’s clearly got a bone to pick with someone, but only she knows who. While we contemplate the source of the imposing weather, Justin Timberlake‘s “Cry Me a River” is the perfect track to kick-off your storm listening session.

If she’s going to “Make It Rain,” she might as well shower some Benjamins over the unemployment line.

Of course being stuck inside while wind whips around outside is going to be a little depressing. We can’t stand the rain, and neither can Missy Elliott. Listen to “Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” if you get a little down about your weekend plans being cancelled.

Just in case you do have to make an emergency trip outside in, make sure you stand under Rihanna‘s “Umbrella.”

That thunder and lightening is going to take it’s toll on your ears. Play a little Mobb Deep if you want a more “Quiet Storm.”

It may only be a category 2 storm now, but we can’t chance it. Take all safety precautions and rock out to Jay-Z‘s “Can I Live.” The end of the world can’t be this near.

With all the news alerts, some people are more shook up than others. Don’t lose hope though, you’re a “Survivor” and you can’t give up.

The flood warnings are in full effect. If you’re getting a little worried about whether you’re going to drift away with the tide, just sing Frank Ocean‘s “Swim Good” and get your Michael Phelps on.

If you’ve made it this far through the playlist without getting wet or wetting yourself, you’re clearly a force Irene can’t reckon with. Throw back your head and tell her “Show Me What You Got”!

Once the storm passes it’ll be something we can all laugh about. Close out your time in the panic room by asking Irene if next time she can get it “Wetter.”
