Somebody better watch the throne, and it’s not Kanye West and Jay-Z

After the leak of Drake’s forthcoming album Take Care, Lil Wayne should watch his throne at the Young Money camp, because Drake is bringing that fire.

Lil Wayne has always said that there isn’t competition between he and Drake because he’s “the boss,” but Lil Wayne should take his own advice and never get too comfortable.

Drake’s new album boasts 19 well thought-out tracks that not only show Drizzy’s ability as a rapper/singer, but also highlights his ability to relate to his listeners via his usual stories about love lost, haters, and his newfound fame.

One of Drake’s biggest appeals is his relatability, which translates into his music. Drake raps and sings about things that every other rapper besides Kanye is afraid to touch.

Besides his honest emo moments, Drake’s appreciation for composition and production, thanks to his best friend/producer Noah “40” Shebib, is reminiscent of his break out mixtape So Far Gone, which many people prefer over his debut album Thank Me Later

Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV simply felt like a last minute thrown together mixtape of half-ass punchlines and lack luster metaphors.

Despite being a huge fan of Lil Wayne, I think he should definitely be aware of Drake’s ability as a rapper. No king ever wants to be outshone by a royal of lower ranks. And although Lil Wayne boasts being the king of his Young Money castle, that doesn’t negate the fact that every king has his last days.

Remember in every great royal narrative, the king always gets overthrown by his predecessor. And no great rap camp stays together forever, there’s always one or two breakout stars who decide to go solo and build their own empires.

Even the members of Wu-Tang clan have branched out over the years, and although most of the guys are supportive of each other’s careers, there have been rifts within the clan.

Since his release from jail and Tha Carter IV, there’s no telling if Lil Wayne has lost his ability to produce a great album, but one thing is for sure; Drake can create and produce a successful album that’s nothing short of great.

At the end of the day, a throne is always up for taking, and Lil Wayne should definitely watch his.
