Chanda Thompson, 21, and her boyfriend Cortez Champion were shot and killed entering their vehicle while buying a birthday cake for their daughter.

Another unidentified victim who was with the couple was also murdered in the parking lot in Illinois.
Police arrested 17-year-old Nicko Grayson, who they charged with three counts of first degree murder.

Chanda had just purchased a birthday cake for her 2-year-old daughter Nahzia Thompson, who luckily was not by her side during the shooting. Thompson was pursuing her nursing degree at Olive-Harvey College and working part time. Her brother Joshua Thompson told ABC7:
“She was working, going to school and raising a two-year-old… I don’t know what happened, but I know those bullets were not intended for her.”
The most challenging part is now having to explain to 2-year-old Chanda where her mother is. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Thompson family.
