Singer and entertainer extraordinaire Janelle Monae isn’t a one look wonder in her new spread for the December issue of Essence magazine!

Known for her signature masculine tuxedos, bow-ties, pompadour and suspenders, Janelle takes it all down a notch for the mag, giving us a more sensual vibe that looks absolutely great on her.

Titled Janelle My Belle and shot by Kwaku Alston, the story is styled gorgeously by Nonja Mackenzie, who dressed Janelle in a sleek black gown paired with Swarovski earrings.

In another look, Janelle brings a mixture of ’70s funk, with some rock hard punk touches (see the spiked epaulets) and awesome black pumps paired with matador inspired trousers.

Janelle doesn’t deviate from her monochromatic style for too long, though. She pairs a black hoop skirt with a white shirt in the story’s additional pages.
