Fight Night, no doubt one of Washington DC’s most memorable and highly anticipated charity events, once again did not disappoint.

Between the live boxing matches and the silent auctions and live entertainment, Fight Night 2011 rocked the night away while raising big bucks for charity.

This evening highlighted the hard works of an incredible man Joseph E Roberts Jr, the creator of Fight for Children organization.

The annual event has been going strong for over 20 years and since has risen over $400 million.

Fight for Children is an independent non-profit organization that recognizes, promotes, and cultivates quality education for low-income children in Washington DC.

The grand scale black tie event was held at grand large ballroom at the Washington Hilton. A large crowd was composed mainly of men, cigar smoke, and models hired to serve drinks.

It was a very high profile event and gained huge support from celebrity guests such as Kenny “BabyFace” Edmonds and Jermaine Dupri, as well as large list of DC notables including Major Vincent Gray, and Washington Kastles owner Mark Ein, Microstrategy CEO Michael Saylor, and Danaher CEO Mitch Rales, just to name a few.

The glamorous after party took place at the Ritz Carlton, which rocked on til the late hours of the night.

A spectacular performance by the Commodores kicked off the evening as they delivered a song in remembrance of the late heavyweight champ Joe Frazier, a crowd favorite who had unfortunately passed away a few days before the event.

Other boxing legends honored at this event include Larry Holmes, Jake LaMotta, Ray ”Boom Boom” Mancini,  Gerry Cooney, Ernie Shavers, and Lou Duva. A regular at this event, ring announcer Michael Buffer delivered a moving speech in honor of the late Joe Frazier.

The most touching moment of the evening came when a terminally ill Joe Roberts arrived in his wheelchair on stage to deliver a heartfelt speech on his dedication to improve the lives of children.

Unfortunately children cannot choose the situation in which they grow up, and often they are the victims of circumstance. It takes a great deal of compassion to acknowledge their need for our help and thanks to Joe Roberts; we will continue to fight for them.

Despite all the boxing matches, the greatest fight here tonight, is Joe Roberts fight for his life. Battling a long war with brain cancer, Joe may not live to see another Fight Night.

Even so, unwilling to retire from his charitable causes, Joe is so intent for fighting for children that he believes  he is still alive is because his work is far from finished. One’s man mission has transformed the quality of life for thousands of children and with our help, and continued support; we can make sure that Joe’s legacy will surely live on.
