What a year for Wiz Khalifa. This time a year ago Wiz was riding high on the newfound success of his smash hit ‘Black and Yellow’. A year later Wiz is getting ready to high, literally, again.
He has a new movie Mac and Devin Go To High School in which he co-stars with Snoop Dogg. In celebration of this, hip-hop’s Cheech and Chong have also banned together for a new track titled “Smokin’ On.” You didn’t need Hot97’s Funk Flex massive bomb droppage to know this is going to be a hit. Anytime Drumma Boy is the producer on the record, you can expect chart topping fire.

2011 has been a great year for the artist Tyrese. The success of the movies Transformers: Dark of Moon and Fast Five have allowed Black Ty to get back in the studio and do his first love, music.
Thankfully, he’s back to his day job which is singing. Don’t get me wrong, Tyrese’s hip-hop alter ego Black Ty is cool but I think we all prefer Tyrese singing a ballad then spiting a 16. This week he dropped another remix off his Open Invitation album, for the song “Stay.” Teaming up with Rick is never a bad look but adding Faith Evans is magical.
It’s been a while since we heard Ms. Evans but she sounds better than ever with Tyrese. Must hear music for the grown, sexy and cute.

Slick Rick The Ruler has been rhyming longer than stars of the new movie The Sitter have been alive. That said, it was a present surprise to hear him on the new track featured in the movie called “Need Some Bad.”
On first listen you realize you’re in the presence of hip-hop royalty. The Ruler’s wordplay and accent is so distinctive on this track. It will truly remind you of what’s missing in today’s hip-hop: creativity and character. DJ Premier lends his legendary production skills to the beat so you know your ears are in for a treat.

Tinie Tempah is the most popular hip-hop artist from the other side of the pond (Europe). Jacqueline Springer, a professor at London’s Syracuse University, told me that Tempah’s popularity is ‘much, much more massive’ than another legendary London hip-hop act Dizzy Rascal.
Tinie’s style has drawn respect from his American collegues as well. Big Sean jumps on his latest track “Lucky C*nt.” If you can get past the namesake, this track has the vibe of a Euro danceclub on E. Shouts out to producer Wizzy Wow.

Hats off to DJ Absolut for this next track “My Generation.” You probably won’t hear this record on your local radio station and not because it’s wack but because its positive. Young Abso gets Wyclef Jean, Pitbull, Jim Jones and The Warlord himself Bounty Killer on this single track that discusses growing up in this dangerous world we live in. Not to many producers could have this much star power on a track with a POSITIVE message.
