The Do The Right Thing director and the Beverly Hills Cop legend are in talks with HBO to create a biopic of the life and times of Marion Barry, with Eddie playing the D.C. mayor.

Marion Barry reached international notoriety in January 1990, when he was videotaped smoking crack cocaine and was arrested by FBI officials on drug charges.
The biopic will be written by John Ridley, who will join Eddie and Spike as executive producers. The trio has tapped D.C. journalists and authors who reported and broke the Barry story in 1990.
HBO wouldn’t comment with details but it should be known that this isn’t the first time HBO has tried to make a movie on the life of Barry. In 2002, filming was reportedly due to start on a movie starring Jamie Foxx and written by Chris Rock that somehow never happened.
HBO has been going hard on remaking popular news stories of the ’90s and this one will be another dope movie under their belt if it gets made.
