The tragic tale of a life cut short has become even more saddening.

The widow of slain Virginia Tech police officer, Deriek Crouse, sent two text messages after the officer was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop by a man he did not know late last week.

Mrs. Crouse said she and officer husband exchanged texts an hour before his shooting. According to Mrs. Crouse, her husband texted her “Love you lots” at 11:20 a.m. to which she responded “Kisses!!!!! Love you.”

An hour later, after catching wind of the news that the campus was shut down, the mother of 5 said she texted her husband at 12.52pm, ‘What’s going on?????” and followed up with another text three minutes later saying  ‘I just need to kno ur ok.’

An hour later officials contacted her to inform her of Deriek Crouse’s untimely death.

This is truly a tragic story and a reminder that it is important to let the ones around you know how much you love and care for them. Our hearts go out to all of those affected by the shootings on the Virginia Tech campus.
