A Montevideo, Minnesota woman named Vinessa Lozano was stabbed over 30 times last Friday by an obsessed coworker. The alleged murderer is 24-year-old Darek Nelson, who police say stabbed 18-year-old Vinessa after she rejected his advances.

STORY: SHE HAS A NAME: Chanda Thompson, Shot To Death Getting A Birthday Cake For Her Daughter

According to ABC News, the two worked together at a restaurant in Montevideo named Pizza Ranch and were friends for about one year. Vinessa’s mother, Robin Savoy, said that Darek’s friendship with her daughter “made him feel like he was important.”

The extremely infatuated Darek always offered to do Vinessa’s chores and give her cigarettes.

Police say they were called Friday night and when they arrived to the scene they spotted Darek standing over Vinessa with a bloody hunting knife. He did not drop the knife until police drew their handguns.

Vinessa was taken to Chippewa County-Montevideo hospital where she later died. Darek was arrested and taken to Yellow Country Medicine jail, where he faces charges of first degree murder for what authorities believe was a premeditated act.

Vinessa, who was engaged and had an 18-month-old son named Carson, was studying to become a nurse at Minnesota West Community and Technical College. In addition to her job at Pizza Ranch, Vinessa worked a second job as a certified nursing assistant in a neighborhood nursing home.

Robin gave her last words saying “I’m so proud to say that she was my daughter…”

Our hearts go out to Vinessa and her family. We hope justice is brought to Darek.
