It’s Thursday again and that not only means that the weekend is almost here, but it also means that it’s time for another installment of Three Stacks Thursdays. In today’s installment, we’re back in New York – but only because this week is the official start of the Armory Show, which brings together artists from all over the world to show off their artwork to potential buyers and the general public. It’s the perfect event to go to if you don’t have a budget. And especially if you are an art lover.
Visit The Armory Show:
The Armory Show is a leading international contemporary and modern art fair and one of the most important annual art events in New York, takes place every March on Piers 92 & 94 in Manhattan. Now celebrating its fourteenth year, the Armory Show is re-establishing itself as the most adventurous and dynamic contemporary art fair in New York City. This year’s Armory Show will feature the work of the 2012 commissioned artist, Theaster Gates and the vibrant art of the Nordic Countries in Armory Focus. The Armory Show has engaged award-winning, New York-based architectural firm Bade Stageberg Cox to redesign The Armory Show, creating a more comfortable, luxurious experience, including a new “farm-to-table” restaurant and cafe by Great Performances. Entrance into the Armory Show is $30, but whether or not you buy any artwork is up to you.

Visit The MoMa’s Contemporary Galleries:
The galleries on the second floor of the MoMa present art of the early 1980s through the present moment, interweaving works in all mediums. Individual galleries focus on particular topics, ranging from specific locations that nourished influential groups of artists to key strategies shared by diverse artist of the same generation. Others display a single significant installation or artist’s project. Like the fifth- and fourth-floor galleries, the second-floor galleries will be periodically reinstalled to reflect the depth and richness of the Museum’s collection, and to allow for varying approaches to the wide variety of art produced during the last 30 years. Featured artists include Ashley Bickerton, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Keith Haring, Takashi Murakami, Martin Kippenberger, Steve McQueen, Senga Nengudi, Doris Salcedo, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Rosemarie Trockel. The Armory Show which helps sustain the world-renowned exhibition programming of The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1 also has works from these artists.

Maybe you need to go out in a couple of hours. Or your favorite show is going to be on TV after a couple of hours. Try to squeeze in the grocery trip in that intermediate time.
