A 2-year-old girl is dead after she fell down a septic tank in New Jersey while playing in a yard with her four siblings.

According to the Star Ledger, emergency crews were working around the clock last night to carefully remove the child’s body from the tank, Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said in a statement.
The girl identified only as “J.C.,” was reported missing at 4:49 p.m. by her mother Marina Matias, authorities said.
The nearly three-hour search ended in tragedy, when young JC was found dead in the septic tank.
Police made the discovery around 7:30 p.m. on East Spruce Street, between New Hampshire and Albert Avenues — ending a search that saw local police and emergency workers from the Ocean County community work side by side with local residents, and State Police provide assistance with a helicopter, authorities said.
Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said in a statement:
“The search teams found a small, approximately three-foot-wide hole in the yard, apparently to a septic tank, and called in the Lakewood Township Public Works Department to pump out the water in the tank.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., the water level had been dropped and police and emergency personnel unfortunately made visual observation of the body of a child in that tank.”
