The death of a 2-year-old Ocean County, New Jersey girl who fell and drowned in a septic tank yesterday has completely horrified her community.

The little girl identified by authorities as J.C. supposedly fell into the septic tank located behind her home while playing with her four siblings. J.C.’s mother, Marina Matias, reported her missing at 4:49 p.m. last Monday.

According to the Associated Press, after three hours of searching, her body was found around 7:30 p.m. in a 3ft wide hole that led to a septic tank located on East Spruce Street, between New Hampshire and Albert Avenues. Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said that there is “no indication of foul play or trauma.”
Neighbor Richard Castelluci spoke on the tragedy saying, “It’s so sad, you know, you can’t bring the kid back.”
