Turns out Russell Brand wasn’t arrested for a misdemeanor yesterday as previously reported, in fact the comedic actor was booked on felony charges.

STORY: Russell Brand Arrested!

According to TMZ, in Louisiana, property damage that exceeds $500 triggers a felony arrest.

Brand turned himself in to New Orleans police after he allegedly snatched an iPhone from a photographer on Monday night and threw it through a plate glass window. The iPhone alone costs more than $500.

The felony charge is punishable by a maximum of 2 years in prison and now prosecutors must decide whether to go forward and file felony charges.

After the incident Brand tweeted:

“Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory.”

Funny line, but this is not a laughing matter anymore. Stay tuned for any further developments.
