From their talents to their accomplishments, celebrities are looked upon in a brighter light within our world.

Fans and even haters listen to their every word whether they agree with it or not, and Twitter has certainly enhanced this experience.

Celebrities such as Lady Gaga, who has over 20 million followers, gets cut a nice check for tweeting whatever they want. Last year, Gaga made about $33 million just from her tweets!

So when it comes to current issues going on in our world, wouldn’t it make sense for a celebrity to be the main ones to bring more people’s awareness to it?

BLOG: A Prayer For Trayvon Martin

Recently, many celebrities and spokespersons have been expressing their opinions and concerns over the Trayvon Martin murder, mostly via Twitter, and it has gone completely viral ever since. Although his death was last month, people have come to terms with it and taken action just within the past few weeks. I definitely think that celebrities have played a huge part in this outbreak.

Working for GlobalGrind on a weekly basis, of course I find out news sometimes sooner than most, but I guarantee that if I did not, I would easily find out about Trayvon’s tragedy through a celebrity bringing awareness to it on Twitter.

Twitter really helped spread the word about the petition against George Zimmerman, the man who shot down Trayvon, and they finally got 1 million signatures to have an investigation begin. Although the family of Trayvon has done a great job spreading the message, many celebrities have certainly recruited a majority of the signatures.

After we saw the Miami Heat basketball team post a photo of themselves wearing their hoodies in honor of Trayvon, it seemed like everybody and their mama was wearing a hoodie! That just goes to show how strong of an influence celebrities have.

Tweeting just to get another paycheck is great and is very much respected, but celebrities should tweet more about worldwide issues, whether they have strong opinions or not.

Just a simple “what do you think about…” could do so much for followers of a celebrity like Kim Kardashian who has millions of them.

Even if it doesn’t affect them directly, it still may be important, especially if the issue is unsolved and unjustified, just like Trayvon’s case.

So whether there is money involved or not, celebrities should realize just how strong their influence on fans truly is. They should scratch the checks and the promotion, and focus on the awareness that they could bring and the difference they could make.

After all, don’t most celebrities want to make a difference at the end of the day?
