A 31-year-old Long Beach, California man, identified as Jacinto Zuniga Trujillo has been charged with allegedly stabbing his stepdaughter in fear that she would reveal his sexual abuse.
According to KTLA, the stabbing of 9-year-old Xiomara Fernandez occurred on April 28th at Los Altos Methodist Church in Long Beach. A passerby claims to have witnessed Jacinto holding the body of the bloody girl.
As reported by KTLA:
Trujillo is accused of the special circumstance allegation that the victim “was killed because she was a witness to a crime,” specifically child molestation.
The special circumstance allegation would allow the District Attorney’s Office to seek the death penalty in the case.
Prosecutors say they will not make that decision until the case moves closer to trial.
Trujillo appeared in court for an arraignment on Tuesday, but did not enter a plea.
According to the complaint, the alleged sexual assaults took place between Nov. 1, 2011, and April 28, the day of the fatal stabbing.
These are absolutely sickening accusations. We hope that Jacinto faces the fullest extent of the law if found guilty. He will reappear in court on May 22nd.
Our condolences go to the family of Xiomara. For more details watch the video here.
