Janet Jackson has earned her dues in music after several years of chart-topping hits, groundbreaking music videos and awe-inspiring choreography. With a new film in theaters; the loss of her friend and brother Michael Jackson; and a reportedly ‘on hold’ or perhaps ‘canceled’ album, could Jackson be trading in her musical talent for long term success in Hollywood ?

Speaking with Rolling Stone March 25, Jackson dismissed talk of an album many believed was on the way after the dance-driven single "Make Me," which ushered in a greatest hits collection in November (2009), and a just released record titled "Nothing," which appears on Tyler Perry’s ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?" soundtrack.

"There was a time where I was actually in the studio and I was recording, but I’m not working on an album," said Jackson. "There have been a lot of record labels that have asked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don’t know if I want to do something completely independent, or go with a major."

It’s no secret that Jackson’s music career has been on loose footing since the infamous ‘wardrobe malfunction’ at the Superbowl, a tough tour (Rock Witchu) and the ultimate departure from Island/Def Jam after 2008s "Discipline" album. Therefore, Jackson could simply be tired of the musical landscape right now and more comfortable with her first love — acting.

Contrary to popular belief, Jackson admits that music is fun but, not as challenging and perhaps as rewarding as acting — something she spoke at length about with Robin Roberts on "In The Spotlight" and while promoting "Why Did I Get Married Too," her second film with award-winning director, Tyler Perry.
