Now that Mitt Romney has selected Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) as his running mate on the Republican Presidential ticket, the shovels are coming out as everyone is starting to dig and find everything they can about the presumptive Vice President.

STORY: “Money” Mitt Romney To Pick Paul Ryan As His Vice President Candidate!

What we do know about Ryan is that he was the main player and author behind the conservative tax and spending blueprints in 2011 and again in 2012.

Ryan’s goal was to transform Medicare into a program in which seniors would receive government checks that they could use to purchase health insurance.

His plan was highly criticized by Democrats who believed his budget plan would impose ever-increasing costs on seniors.

So did Romney pick Ryan just to have a guy with a better health care plan? It looks that way.

But now that Ryan is the number two let’s delve into his life a little bit and found out more about the VP pick…

At 42, Ryan is a generation younger than the 65-year-old Romney.

Ryan reps the “U”  as he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. While at Miami Ryan double majored in economics and political science in 1992.

He was first elected to Congress in 1998. His father died when he was 16 and his family has lived in Wisconsin since the 1800s.

Serving as a seventh-term congressman, Ryan is chairman of the House Budget Committee.

Political insiders say that Ryan’s selection would help Romney win Wisconsin and its 10 electoral votes in the fall, even though the state supports Democrats in presidential contests as Obama won it four years ago.

The congressman worked as an aide in Congress, and also was a speechwriter for Jack Kemp.

Ryan is known to go hard in the gym as his physical fitness workouts have become legendary on the Hill. He’s been known to lead P90X sessions with Hill staffers and lawmakers.

Ryan is a longtime Wisconsinian he has a home in Janesville and is a father of three,  he has two sons named Charles and Samuel and one daughter, Elizabeth.

Ryan has been known to rock out to Beethoven and Led Zepplin.

In 2004 and 2006 Ryan voted to amend the U.S. Constitution to prevent same-sex couples from marrying.

At the time Ryan said-

“I believe that marriage should remain between a man and a woman, and I have heard from many of the people I represent who are concerned about activist judges abusing their power and rewriting our society’s definition of marriage.

I had hoped that this amendment wouldn’t be necessary, but increasingly it appears that laws such as the Defense of Marriage Act will not be sufficient to protect marriage from certain courts that distort state and federal constitutional law.”

Ryan voted against repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in 2010 and against the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Protection Act in 2009.
