UPDATE 1:00 PM EST

Authorities are connecting the dots in the freeway shootings that happened early morning near Tustin and Villa Park, California.

According to USA Today:

The shootings began shortly before 4:45 a.m. when deputies responding to a call found the body of a dead female shot multiple times in a house in Ladera Ranch.

The gunman headed north in an SUV, and two more people were fatally shot in the next 25 minutes after carjackings in Tustin and Santa Ana, according to the Orange County Register.

Authorities found at least six crime scenes, Orange County sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino told KNBC-TV.

“I do not believe any of the victims are related to each other. It might have been a random thing,” he said. “We just don’t know.”

The alleged shooter shot himself in the middle of an intersection, Tustin police Supervisor Dave Kanoti said.

It is being reported that two other people were injured in the shootings, however, the condition of the wounded victims is unknown.

This story is developing.

Three people were shot and killed after a series of shootings early Tuesday near the Tustin and Villa Park areas of California.

It is being reported that the gunman is also deceased.

Police say the suspected shooter, who has yet to be identified, is among the dead. He reportedly took his own life in the town of Orange after being stopped by officers following the first three shootings, Lt. Paul Garaven of the Tustin Police Department tells the Orange County Register.

According to NBC:

Investigators responded to at least four locations in after receiving a series of shooting reports.

The first shooting occurred near the Red Hill Avenue exit from the 5 Freeway. A second shooting, about 20 minutes later, was reported on the 55 Freeway near the Edinger Avenue exit.

Aerial video showed patrol vehicles in the parking lot of a nearby electronics store in the 1100 block of Edinger Avenue.

Aerial video also showed Tustin police and California Highway Patrol vehicles at the intersection of Wanda Road and Katella Avenue, just east of the 55 Freeway. A body was discovered at the location.

Authorities are investigating reports of a third shooting near McFadden Avenue and the 55 Freeway, where a body was found. Aerial video showed a pickup and several patrol vehicles on the freeway ramp.
