PHOTOS: “Are You Our Teacher!?” President Obama Visits Pre-School In Georgia To Tout Education Proposals!

President Obama has made a vow to improve United States education. According to the author of Building A Grad Nation, John Bridgeland, the U.S is off to a great start. Building A Grad Nation will be released by American’s Promise Alliance, an advocacy group founded by Colin and Alma Powell. It is a report on the U.S education progress.

“This is our fourth annual update,” said Brudgeland. “Previously we’ve been able to focus on school districts making a double-digit gains but we always have to pivot and say the pace of progress is too slow. Now, we have hopeful news.”

Reportedly the high school graduation rate is making enough progress to reach the goal of 90 percent by 2020. The increase in graduation rates are reportedly driven by minority students in Southern states.

Although the U.S is making a step in the right direction, students who graduate from high school are not guaranteed to take on the next challenge: college. According to the College Board last fall, the high school graduation rate is increasing but fewer than half of the graduating class are ready for college.

The progress is commendable but changes still need to be made to not only help students advance on to college, but to properly prepare them for college.

Congratulations and good luck to both recent and upcoming high school graduates!
