VIDEO: Cadillac Pimpin’: Couple Crashes Car On To Neighbor’s Roof

A brave 9-year-old girl was her father’s only hope for survival, after he misjudged a steep curve on the deserted Sierra Highway in California, sending his SUV off the side of the highway and 200 feet into a ravine.

The 9-year-old, who has not been identified, crawled out of the wreckage and immediately went into rescue mode. She took on the darkness of the night and walked 1,000 feet to a nearby home – making sure to turn off the car engine after smelling a gas leak.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Tom Lackey told KABC, “She walked quite a distance in a very, very threatening environment. It’s very black out here, very dark. It’s very steep and it’s brushy and there’s also coyotes in the background.”

Unfortunately, the 1,000 foot walk was in vain, as no one answered the little girl’s repeated knocks on the door. Determined to save her daddy’s life, the 9-year-old hiked approximately 200 feet up the highway and was able to get the attention of a motorist, who then called authorities.

By the time authorities arrived at the scene, the 9-year-old girl’s father, Alejandro Renteria, 35, died of his injuries.

Amber Mejia, sister to the courageous child, was devastated at the news. She said, “They were really close and that hurts the most.”

The father and daughter duo was reportedly on their way back home from a friend’s house. Authorities suspect the father was under the influence, but no confirmations have been made. The 9-year-old girl suffered from minor cuts and bruises and will remain under hospital care until Tuesday.

Our condolences to the Renteria family and to the 9-year-old’s brave heart, your father would be proud.
