The Boy Scouts of America are finally on the road to ending the ban on gay and lesbian members.

The ban has been the topic of discussion for several months but change is near. Ending the ban requires ratification by the organization’s National Council but the Boy Scouts of America are hopeful.

Spokesman Deron Smith said, “No youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.”

The lifting of the ban will only apply to youth members, not adult troop leaders. The National Council are scheduled to vote on May 20th.
