The government is listening.

In a discussion about the investigation of the Boston Marathon Bombers, former FBI counterterrorism agent Tim Clemente told the world that the government has been, and still is, monitoring American citizens’ interactions via technology.

Clemente appeared on CNN and was asked if the conversation between deceased Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his wife Katherine Russell could be retrieved and used for further investigation. Host Erin Burnett didn’t believe it could be done, but Clemente quickly changed her mind.

“No, there is a way. We certainly have ways in national security investigators to find out exactly what was said in that conversation. It’s not necessarily something that the FBI is going to want to present in court, but it may help lead the investigation and/or lead the questioning of her. We certainly can find that out. All of that stuff is being captured as we speak whether we know it or like it or not,” said Clemente.

This is not the first we’ve heard of Big Brother’s listening ear. Democratic Senators Ron Wyden and Mark Udall have hinted for years that the government is more advanced than the public gives them credit for. Citizens were reportedly unbothered by the intrusive activity due to the September 11th attack, but now feel their constitutional rights are being compromised.

On one hand, the FBI can catch those who are a threat, but on the other hand, don’t the innocent deserve privacy? What do you think?
