All basketball accolades aside, Miami Heats player Dwyane Wade’s personal endeavors have not always led him down the most golden paved of roads, but he’s trying to change that for his sons.
Just in time for the kick off of June and the celebration of Father’s Day, Dwyane Wade was selected as the cover star for the June 2013 issue of Jet Magazine.
The proud father and sole guardian of two boys— Zaire, 11, and Zion, 5— and legal guardian to his nephew Dahveon Morris, 11, spoke about his summer plans with the family, explaining that with or without a new ring, he is headed to Disney World.
“I’m the kind of parent who asks my kids questions like what would be your ideal thing to do in the summer? This year it’s Disney World. Even though I make the final decision, I want them to feel involved. Not only in vacations but other things as well.”
D Wade is suited up on the teaser cover of the magazine, but we are hoping for adorable father son photos when the full spread is released. Check out some excerpts from the interview below where Dwyane talks about his messy custody battle with his ex-wife
“I didn’t set out to get full custody but I wasn’t able to see my kids the way I wanted and I’m not a parent who’s going to run away from his responsibilities. I was probably a terrible husband, but I pride myself on being a good dad…It’s been six years and hopefully one day she and I can get to the point where it’s a lot easier than it is now to co-parent.”
