Chad Johnson is currently sitting in jail after slapping his lawyer Adam Swickle‘s ass while in court on Monday.

Yeah, the ass slap caused some laughter in the courtroom, but the judge residing over the case, Kathleen McHugh, did not find it funny – at all – which is why she sent the former NFL star straight to jail for 30 days.

But Judge McHugh’s reaction has caused a lot of backlash – being seen as an abuse of power, both from the public, and Chad.

Chad has now filed a motion asking the judge to reconsider her ruling, and his lawyer, the ass-slapping “victim,” is the one who filed the legal docs, claiming Chad meant no disrespect by the gesture.

To get some more professional insight on the incident, TMZ asked FL Atty. Gen. Pam Bondi how she felt about the judge throwing Chad in jail for the incident, and she said:

“Although we never condone domestic violence, this event seems to question judicial temperament, not the subject matter before the court.”

Well, there ya go.

And, just to recap: Chad was in court on a probation violation in his domestic violence case [from last summer’s incident with Evelyn Lozada] when the judge was about to accept a settlement that did NOT involve jail. After the ass slap, the judge tossed the settlement and sent him straight to the slammer.

A hearing is set for Monday.
