Bus drivers and fists seem to go hand-in-hand these days, huh?
When a 21-year-old man tried to use a reduced-fare card intended for younger passengers on Todd Allen Shields’ Phoenix, Arizona bus, things got a little crazy.
The 45-year-old bus driver physically threw the man off the bus and started swinging on him. Passenger Desirae Madrid caught the attack on her cell phone camera.
“Honestly I didn’t know if he knew how to stop the way he was hitting this kid and repeatedly swinging at him. I didn’t think he was going to stop,” Desirae told FOX 10.
“The bus driver stood up and picked him up to where the kid’s feet was literally off the floor and threw him out and I just remember seeing the kid fly off the other side of the little block that’s there and his feet were literally in the air.”
She called the police and reported the attack after Shields slammed the passenger’s head on a metal bench.
“It makes me angry and sick to my stomach. He is the driver and deals with the public every day,” she said. “He is supposed to be a professional.”
But no worries, Shields was arrested at the scene and was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and criminal damage. The company that employs him released a statement saying that he was on leave pending a formal investigation.
Lesson here: keep your hands to yourself. Especially on the bus.
