On Monday we reported that transgender Internet personality B. Scott was asked to “tone down” his glamorous attire on the red carpet at Sunday’s BET Awards.

Scott, whom was scheduled to host the pre-awards show, arrived wearing heels and a flowing blouse, but was immediately asked to change into a more “conservative” suit and flats.

Additionally he was paired with singer-actress Adrienne Bailon as a co-host, when previously he was scheduled to host alone.

As expected, the network is now “retracting” its decision and apologizing to the larger than life Scott, for what they call “a series of unfortunate miscommunications.”

BET on the incident:

“[it] was a singular one with a series of unfortunate miscommunications from both parties. We regret any unintentional offense to B. Scott and anyone within the LGBT community and we seek to continue embracing all gender expressions.”

Of course BET also threw in this statement about working with LBGT personalities in the past:

“[BET] embraces global diversity in all its forms and seeks to maintain an inclusive workforce and a culture that values all perspectives and backgrounds.”

But B. Scott ain’t got time for that! In an interview on Tuesday, he sounded off about the incident, stating that the apology was half-hearted and maintains that he was very clear with the network about his on-air fashions.

“I want a real apology from BET. This was a not a mutual misunderstanding or miscommunication. I pride myself on being very professional,” he said.

Scott later said:

“This was my day to come out in one of the biggest days of my career and I was publically humiliated,” he said. “I’m just hurt by it. I just want people to know that it’s ok to be who you are.”

Despite the turmoil with the network, he says that he wouldn’t be opposed to working with them again, as long as he would be able to express himself and his brand as he normally does. Scott also says that he did have supporters at the network rallying behind his fashion choices, but a single executive made the ultimate decision.
