Apple is always keeping techies on edge with their surprising yet vague announcements.

Today the technology empire announced its decision to hire former Yves Saint Laurent CEO, Paul Deneve, as Vice President for what Apple spokesperson, Kristin Huguetcalls “special projects.” The luxe fashion director quit his designer gig for the new position, and will report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Despite Deneve’s resume displaying a stark background in high-end fashion with his stints at Lanvin and Nina Ricci, a closer look reveals that he previously worked with Apple during the early to mid ’90s as a sales and marketing manager in their European division.

No word yet on exactly what “special project” the company will have him working on, but the tech world is speculating that Deneve will be lending a hand in developing the company’s new iventure in “wearables,” with the major product being the iWatch.

Earlier this year, Business of Fashion reported that the wearable technology market is expected to hike $30-$50 billion dollars within the next 3-5 years, and rightfully Apple is getting in on this to get their share of the pie!

In the past, members of the fashion community have frowned at the idea of wearable technology due to it being equally unaesthetically pleasing and lacking in functionality.

Conceivably, in his new post at Apple, Deneve will lend a hand in proving those style nay-sayers wrong!
