The party took a major blow during the shutdown — polls show the GOP’s popularity plummeting to a historic low. And many Senate Republicans who called for the shutdown to end days ago say that the party gained nothing from the stubborn showdown in the end. Here’s some good news. A bill awarding compensation to the victims of the Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro is set to be voted on by the Ohio legislature. That bill would reward Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus with $25,000 for each year that they were held captive. [DailyMail]

A shocking new report reveals that the majority of countries around the world still have millions of enslaved people. According to the report released by the NGO “Walk Free,” there are 29 million slaves in 162 countries including the United States, Canada and Western Europe nations. [CBS]
