Austin police has reported that one person was killed and four were injured early this morning in two separate shootings in the downtown area of the city.

Police officials say the gunmen, yet to be identified, pulled out a weapon and opened fire into a crowd on Sixth Street, a popular nightlife district, around 2am. A woman in her 20’s was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other victims — all women in their 30s — were wounded and quickly transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge for treatment. The suspect is reportedly still at large.

The second incident took place at a parking garage just blocks away from the first. A suspect pulled out a weapon and opened fire at a bystander, but was taken into custody before anyone was harmed. He was transported to the hospital but sustained no serious injuries.

Though investigators believe the two shootings are unrelated, the city is on high alert. Austin police are asking anyone with video footage of the respective disturbances to come forward.
