High fashion house Chritian Dior has suspended John Galliano, the brand’s lead designer, after the designer was arrested in France Thurday night  after an altercation with a couple in a restaurant.

Galliano allegedly hurled anti-Semitic slurs and exchanged slaps with the  couple who dined near him. Galliano was breifly detained then released by French police.

According to a statement issued by Dior president and chief executive officer Sidney Toledano, the fashion house has a policy of zero tolerance regarding racism and anti-Semitism. The statement said the suspension would remain in force until the results of a police investigation.

Persons speaking on condition of anonymity said that the British designer’s blood alcohol levels were high and did not issue further details.

However, another police source told the Telegraph, ‘Witnesses said [Galliano] swore heavily, using anti-Jewish insults, before attacking a couple. Both have provided witness statements, as have a number of other people at the bar, including staff.’
